Less points for opponent favored?

I just looked at the ladder score breakdown of a previous game, and I noticed that I received a -2 for opponent favored. I won the game, and I was a against a favored opponent, shouldn't that mean we get plus points rather than points deducted? I also noticed if we are the favored player, we add points. I lost a game for a -12, but me being favored (not sure to what degree) meant I added 11 points? If the system is like that for a reason I would greatly appreciate the reason why, as I am sure a lot of other players would as well. Again, no a complaint as much as a curiousity.

I think the Favoured term is a bit ambiguous. You'll lose points for beating a Favoured opponent or lose even more for losing to them. If you're Favoured, you'll gain tons of points for beating them, and barely lose anything if you lose to them.

Favoured either means the opposite of what most of us think it does (e.g. its a handicap, instead of 'favoured to win'), or they implemented the thing bass ackwards.

It confused me as well, they way I saw it being useful was to prevent people from climbing up the ladder rapidly. The caveat with that principle is that the player has to win the in the first place, and if they are winning they should be up-ranking.

Yea just happened to me. I got like 2 points when I beat the other guy, and he was favored to win. Bug maybe?

I also noticed this. I was under the impression that Favored teams where the teams with higher stats, higher ranks, more points, or some mixture of all those. So if you win as the underdog, you should always get the extra points, imo.

It seems like under the points breakdown, after winning, I've seen both +10 and -10 for Favored.

Winning can net anywhere from 2-3 points for a win(a normal win, no bonus, -10 for favoring), to seemingly 20-30(?more?), depending on bonus(rested) and favoring.

I kind of wish I could see why other teams get favored, my 2s team has never been favored in a matchup yet, but we do win occasionally, so I'll take the extra points.

I have tried to think of a few scenarios where more points towards the favored would work... none of them seem to be feasible. Closest things I could think of were to prevent rapid ladder climbing, and rapid ladder dropping. What would be interesting to know would be if ladder ranking and point system factors in the games played against previous opponents near your rank. I.E, if I go 8-8 against my ladder, and an opponent whom I had beaten is also 8-8, I should rank higher than them based on my performance against them. I understand that this mechanic of ranking would take a lot of computer memory somewhere, just wondering if that was the case.

It's simple:

If you win and get "+6 Opponent Favored" it means your opponent was favored to win, so you get more points.

If you win and get "-6 Opponent Favored" it means that YOU were the opponent favored to win, so you don't get as many points.

You can easily confirm this by remembering who was the favored player on the loading screen, and checking that against the results.

Exactly, the stuff in parenthesis doesn't change, but you are penalized if you were favored (more likely to win), and rewarded if the enemy was likely to win.

I agree. People automatically assume "opponent" means "their opponent" when right now it means "either opponent/side in the game". It should changed to either say, "Opponent Was Favored to Win", "You Were Favored to Win", or "Sides Even" depending on the situation.

I was talking about the loading screen. I got 4 points for beating a guy that was favored on the loading screen.

So I recently played 1v1 with someone and I was favored. I beat him and I got 18 points. Checking his profile hes in copper league and im in the bronze league.

Wasn't he supposed to be the favored one cos hes in a lower league?

Kryptx, that is true in SOME cases, which this thread has evolved into illustrating... the point breakdown isn't always the same. Sometimes I am favored, I win, I gain less points - the way it should be - sometimes I am favored, I win - I gain MORE points - not the way it should be. I am just trying to point out the fact that there is an inconsistency in scoring when it comes to the "opponent favored" part.

After you play a game, on the scoring screen, look where it says "Your Score" above a point value next to your ladder rank on the right hand portion of the screen. Next to the words "your score" on the right there is an "i" button, kinda small, that gives the exact point totals for certain things.

This is the opposite for me.. I'm losing points for being Favoured and winning. It's making my brain hurt just thinking about it. It's even worse because even though I'm favoured it says "-# Opponent Favoured" >.>

Look at the matchup stats, point the mouse over their names and you can add them as friends. Go to ladder page and then click on Friends ladder on the left and it'll show you what their division and rank is. You can double click on their name there to see their profile, and from their profile you can click on ladder and it'll show you their division's ladder.
